Happy Holidays!

December 26th is here, and by Monday (heck even today), life will be normal again with a new year around the corner! Let’s talk about Christmas before we get into anything else. Even as a hermit chock full of anxiety, I LOVE Christmas. I get in such a good mood, and getting my favorite people things I know they’ll love and enrich their lives is one of the greatest things I do over the course of the year. But that’s not the star today, the star is the culmination of my cooking skills! At the beginning of the pandemic, to keep myself amused I decided to pick up cooking, and for most of the year, I’ve tried out a new recipe a week, botching a few in the beginning, and progressively becoming so familiar with the kitchen, constantly making people jealous of my creations :D

For Christmas, I decided to pursue my ultimate dream, crab bisque with whole lobsters (and fries, hey, I had enough to tackle give me a break here).

So, one thing about lobsters is that you have to have them FRESH or bacteria happens. And I knew going in, that I was pretty much definitely going to have to slay them myself. I looked for the most humane way of killing them, which is to freeze them for a bit and then… do the deed. I’d never handle a squirming full of life lobster before, and the anxiety I had prior to the act was… substantial. One of the reasons I decided to go through with it is because, well, I don’t like the idea of being a meat eater who only does so under the context that someone else do the killing. To me, that feels hypocritical. I also didn’t know if it might change me and be the final push into going vegetarian. After 30 minutes, I finally commit and went through with it- I won’t get to graphic BUT, there was a good 20 minutes where I was panicking that I’d done it wrong. But 15 minutes of steaming later, I had a beautiful pair ready to be cleaned.

My crab bisque was INCREDIBLE and I will probably never buy crab bisque at a store/restaurant again. It’s not difficult to make, and for the amount they charge you, you can make it better AND meatier.

For Christmas I mostly got hats and underwear which was actually pretty high on my list :D

Did I mention I also baked a cheesecake? Yeah, your boy really outdid himself this year =]
